hey folks. so... as some of you may or may not know, we've got a new Do Me Bad Things single out on Monday (13th June). all the details can be found HERE www.domewebthings.com/index2.php (including a link to pre-order the very limited autographed 7" which is only available from hmv.co.uk) the reason i'm mentioning this is NOT to beg you to buy it if you weren't planning to... but rather, if you WERE planning on buying it, can you make sure you buy it next week, preferably Monday (or even better, pre-order it online) rather than leaving it til the week after or anything like that. see, i been looking at sales figures for the last DMBT single (what an exciting way to spend the afternoon) and it seems they've sold more copies over the weeks since the single came out than they did in the week of release. if all the folks who'd bought it over the past couple of months had bought it the week it came out, it woulda been in the top10 or something, and that would've been pretty awesome. so... yeah... like i said, if you could, that'd be very excellent indeed. thanking you!! x ps : sorry to use the board for such matters, but i'm pretty much 100% sure that the Weiner boy's would approve. right guys? ;D

i will certainly help you there. i will buy 2 so me and one o of my mates who was at aldershot will get one to. if you are buying the same version of it, buy it in two seperate transactions apparantly if you buy like 2 7" 's at the same time it only counts as one sale in terms of the singles chart well thats what we were told on other message boards so buy it as two seperate transactions then it counts as 2 (tho ian will probably say this is total b******* )

i've heard something like that before but i think you can buy more than one in a transaction and they'll count individually...but not like 5 or something, i'm not sure

k i'm on the chart site now and its really interesting there's actually rules about free gifts lol it says a) 1 x poster OR b) cards, maximum of 4, must be 2-sided OR one 4-page (2 sided) booklet (thats just for singles lol)
all free gifts must fit within the packaging(well duh), you are allowed to promote merchandise but not that which is available solely through the purchase of the single/album and no discount for getting the single is offered....must promote the artist concerned
maxi cds can have either a game, an additional video section (no longer than 2 mins) or a downloadable feature...links to microsites...
you get the idea about how picky they are and yeh the bit about combined sales if anyone can understand what they mean:
"The Official UK Charts Company: Rules For Chart Eligibility 2: Combining of Sales Sales are added together for purposes of publication, into three main charts: Combined Singles: Sales of a maximum of three of the following formats may be combined: ”2 Track” CD single as defined in section 1a, “Maxi” CD single as defined in section 1b, “Maxi” DVD single as defined in section 1b, 7-inch vinyl single, 10-inch vinyl single, 12-inch vinyl single, Cassette single
PLEASE NOTE THAT SALES OF A MAXIMUM OF ONE “2 TRACK” CD SINGLE WILL BE COMBINED FOR SINGLES CHART PURPOSES. SALES OF TWO “MAXI” SINGLES MAY BE COMBINED WHERE ONE IS A CD AND ONE IS A DVD BUT SALES OF TWO “MAXI” CDS OR TWO DVDS MAY NOT BE COMBINED.
Combined Albums: (Vinyl + Cassette + CD + DVD + CD/DVD sets + MD + CD+/ROM or other eligible multimedia formats) All Videos
For chart purposes, the sales of different items are combined where they can reasonably be held to be variants or alternative formats of the same piece of product. The criteria for combining sales are detailed below.
2.1 Singles Sales of different formats and variants of a single are combined for chart purposes where each format contains the featured track(s), and not the featured track(s) from any other chart single. The featured track of a Top 40 single cannot be released as a B-side or extra title on a subsequent chart- eligible single until the former has dropped out of the Top 40. (that'll be why rooster's 'staring at the sun' single had come get some on it then lol)
A maximum of three formats for each title is eligible for the singles chart. The first 3 formats to be domestically released will feature in the Chart unless the record company elects a different combination before release. 4th and subsequent formats of a single will not be eligible for a chart position.
Note: the featured track on alternative formats need not be identical for their sales to be combined, but should be substantially the same - that is, an identical OR extended OR remixed OR live version of the basic track"
-sorry it copied with weird spacing and was hard to work out where to correct!-

thanks folks!!!
as for the chart rulings.. .aye, they are a bit complicated. but those ones XweinerXcoreX posted are really just the rules for labels releasing stuff and don't really apply to the public buying stuff.
as far as i understand it, a person could go into HMV and buy 10 copies of a single and probably get away with it (tho i don't condone that sort of thing. chart-rigging is for labels with no self-respect.. a record sells what it sells.. trying to buy it into the chart doesn't make it a hit, it just makes it a record that's been bought into the chart)... but if the CIN computer notices the blip in sales, i think there's some elaborate programme that kicks in which sort of levels out the sales based on the records sales in other shops (or something like that. the finer points of this stuff are always a little lost on me. i just know it's not as simple as every sale contributing directly to the chart position. i imagine there's all kinds of complex equations going on in some massive computer somewhere).
anyways. yeah. thanks again!
see yers

all free gifts must fit within the packaging(well duh), actually, this ain't as 'well duh' as it sounds. back in the day, there'd be singles released with free t-shirts given away with 'em and all kinds of nonsense like that in an attempt to hype the record into the charts. ridiculous really.

I'll try to buy it. I think I know some other people who might be too. DMBT played at Mayfest, I was completely gutted to not be able to go, so I might as well buy the album as well.

I would love to help out but i don't buy singles. Unless most of a band/artists songs suck except one then maybe it is worth it! But i will tell people who might be interested to do so!

apparently if you buy a single from an ebay shop it still counts as a sale...I only buy promo singles or ones by Feable Weiner..and the odd 7inch when I've got 99p to spare.
