There was a potato famine some time before or after the first or second world war. It was between Ireland and England, and I think some people got very cross.
That's why in WW2 children weren't evacuated to Ireland. I think...

I think... good lord. surely you could at least have checked the magical interweb before posting that!! the potato famine happened 1845 - 1850 (100 years before WW2), somewhere in the region of a million people died during those years and double that amount left the country for England and the USA. i assume that schools these days only teach Text-Speak and how to do one's hair for your Pop Idol audition... but even if your education system has failed you, there's still a whole big world of books and electronic information available at your fingertips.

Thanks for the history lesson But... You assume wrong. If you take History at a GCSE level, you have to do modern History. It bloody sucks. Nobody told me that when I sigined up to do History i'd be learing about Germany and Britain in the 20th century...

We learnt about the Korean War, First and Second World Wars, Vietnam War, Womens Movement, The Rise of Hitler, and what not. I can't remember, but I know i should be revising it all.
