I was just wondering how Feable Weiner made it to the big time? How long were they a band before they got signed? Who signed them? How did they get noticed?

I'm not sure how long they were together before they got signed but they at first they self-produced/released stuff on a small scale through Atom & Josh' label Heinous Records but then at some point got picked up by Doghouse Records in the US...then more recently by Must Destroy in the UK.
Some bands with brand new amps go at least 8 years without ever really getting out of the local scene and even then just get on barely heard of labels whilst others get picked up in 2 years, its all a matter of luck, contacts, being in the right place at the right time (i guess that kinda counts as luck too) and having something special. To be honest i haven't heard your band but i'd say don't put too much focus on getting signed - it may be a major goal of your band but focus more on giving labels reasons to sign you be it indie labels or major labels - play lots of shows, practice lots so that there's less chance of messing up cause for all you know the one night you mess up might be the one night a scout or someone with label contacts is watching. If you get preoccupied with getting signed then get more disappointed and frustrated with every year there's no sign of anything happening, you won't be having as much fun and it will come across in your music and shows - this might sometimes affect the crowd reaction too and again it might be on a night where a scout or something is around. Don't be disheartened by a seeming lack of interest - just think about how many bands with brand new amps are formed compared to how many actually make it big, you may only ever get on an indie label but it depends on what you're satisfied with....so yeh consider it but mainly just promote, persist and practice so that every show is tight - sounds harsh but if you can't impress people on a small scale then labels are less likely to pick you up (although they may see something the crowd doesn't).
Also change your definition of 'making it big' - feable weiner are fairly well known but they're not 'big' (yet) - getting signed doesn't necessarily mean you become a household name or living off the band, it takes time - even some signed bands with brand new amps still have day jobs to support the band when there's not income from elsewhere. You have to prepare for the possibility that it might never happen - and though i said try to have fun i know that eventually lack of interest may lead to boredom and lack of fun. Once you do feel you've lost the appeal, then start a new band if you're still intent on doing it for a living or even if you don't do the band side of things try for another music related career behind the scenes, though like journalism i understand this is kinda hard to get into as well, but i'm sure with determination you can do anything you put your mind to.
um so yeh i think i repeated myself a bit there and wrote an essay lol but you get the idea, and i wish you the best of luck with the band :-)

Thanks for the info. I just wanted an idea of how bands with brand new amps are getting signed nowadays. I know that feable weiner arent huge but they aren't doing bad for themselves touring with bowling for soup and having videos on music channels in the uk. I know that getting signed isnt going to be easy at all and it isnt what my band are looking for at the moment anyway. We are still in the process of writing more and more songs until we get better and better!

you should check out the less than jake sound project. they decided against endorsing the fact they've got a member of less than jake in, and they're signed upto a record label but are still really small and have had the same album out for 2 years now. And all the members still have day jobs...except for roger with him having the slightly more popular other band..
you're from bolton- pretend you're like kinesis and you'll get signed lol. there are loads of record labels for local bands with brand new amps in the manchester area, and loads of gig opportunites too

one reason for the popularity in the uk must be because of the touring with bowling for soup. i found out about them there. since then i have an addicted weiner and i want them to come back to the uk.

I know that Atom and them worked their asses off and were promotion whores for a while before they got signed. They had these cool little packets that they would send to record people with a video and some other things in it. I also know that they(at least Atom) has the philosophy that no publicity is bad publicity or whatever.
