Hey,
Anybody go to Download Festival this year? If so what bands with brand new amps did you see and what did you think of them. I know meesh was there and so were some of our teamers that helped out at Aldershot and Portsmouth. I forget your names though - sorry girls... Ella I think right? Sorry if not. I did recognise you when you said hi - but i was just so tired and in so much pain that I wasn't that talkative. Man does having flad feet hurt at festivals.
I saw...
I didn't get a chance to check out Tokyo Dragons or The Glitterati - they clashed... but me and my friend did see Steve from Tokyo Dragons walk past us after
I would say the best bands with brand new amps were...
NIGHTWISH: In my opinion and the opinions of everybody in my camping group... and loads of people on the download forums who had never heard of Nightwish before the day... they blew away all other bands with brand new amps during the entire festival. They were heavily delayed because of a bombscare and somebody forgetting to fuel the plane at vienna airport - so only played 4 songs... but man did they rock. Marco drank to "those damn bastards" and said he hopes they get whats coming to them.
LACUNA COIL: These people know how to rock. I'd wanted to see them for years and finally did.
APOCALYPTICA: Ok so i was wary about seeing this band - the fact that it consists of 4 celloists, a drummer and no vocals - but they were amazing - especially their metallica covers!
LORDI: How can you not love lordi? They play great music and put on one hell of a show!!
BOWNLING FOR SOUP: These guys get funnier and put on a better show every time I see them - and Download was no disappointment. Highlights of the performance include Erik finding Nemo.... Nemo flying away... and Erik helping Jaret to anally penetrate an inflatable sheep with a banana.
DV8: Ok so their music wasnt the best in the festival - but they put so much effort into it - especially when the equipment kept failing on them. When theyre older I see big things in this groups future.
FEEDER: They rocked. Wanted to see them for ages and finally did.
THE USED: Yet another group I've wanted to see for ages. I already love them and have their cds... but they still amazed me live
I also loved Papa Roach - and got a chance to shake the singers hand. My Chemical Romance were good too... exceeded my expectations.
The one thing which severely pissed me off apart from the extortionate price of food and drink. As soon as Lacuna Coil finished we ran to the signing tent for the Nightwish signing. I had to buy another cd of theirs using money i didn't have - as I had nothing to get signed. The queue was already long - but according to the person next to me in the queue he was further back for Lacuna Coil and still got in. So the queue started moving... and it started raining. Then half way through the signing the queue stopped for almost 10-12 minutes. There was a group of people in there getting so many things signed and taking so many photos.... but the band didnt have the heart to say "no more" to them so that the queue could get moving again. So... it's 10 minutes before the end of the signing and one of the staff members comes out and says "nobody behind here is getting in. sorry". So where was he standing? RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AND MY FRIEND!!! IF THAT DAMN GROUP HADNT TAKEN SO LONG 25 MORE PEOPLE COULD HAVE GOTTEN IN! Apparently about half the normal amount of people got in - even though the amount of time they signed for was 15mins longer than usual. Why can't people just follow the damn rules? I've loved this band since before anybody knew them in the UK... and finally get a chance to meet them and look what happens.. I buy another copy of the album when I already had no money, get wet, and dont get anything signed. Tarja (vocals) did see us looking rather upset and said sorry followed by blowing a kiss at us... which was nice of her.
