While we're not on the subject, let me tell you all how much I HATE the proliferation of phonetic spellings in American culture.

It's not cool. It's ignorant. I can appreciate wanting to be unique, and the desire to express one's self. But this is not the way to do it. It conveys the message that you don't care, and that you relish being lazy with your language.

I sometimes think the French have the right ideas about culture. (Which is an altogether horrible thought. But desperate times beget desperate thoughts.)

So, just take the time, and plunk down those extra 3-5 characters. Make our President proud.
