I hope you all like to read because I just have to get all of this out.
I had my first experience with the Weiner this past Sunday, and it was SO GOOD! I saw them play in Greensboro, NC, at Ace’s Basement Sunday, Feb 8 and then again at the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh, NC, on Monday, Feb 9. Both nights were amazing! ;D If you were at those shows and you saw a weird girl with Gwen Stefani hair gone horribly wrong, that was me. (Bright Yellow and Orange) Okay here goes…
Sunday, Feb 8 -- Ace’s Basement (Greensboro):
I drove 4 and a half hours for this show. I have never driven on an interstate before so the drive up was extremely hard on me. (The only driving I do is to Wal-Mart.) Plus I got lost for 45 minutes. I almost didn’t go because I got frustrated looking for the place. I pulled into a church parking lot to get turned around to go back home when I saw the sign for the place. How’s that for weird? Anyhoo, I went in at about 6pm. I was very scared and alone. I knew absolutely no one. I headed for a lonely corner and to my surprise I saw Josh sitting at the bar. It was just too surreal! (I don’t ever go to shows so this was a huge experience.) I went to the corner and just looked around. I saw Jeff setting up his laptop at a nearby table, and then I saw Ben near the merchandise table. I was too scared to say hi to any of them. Atom came in and sat at the bar. At some point, I noticed him reading a medicine box. It was so sad that he was sick.
At this point, I realize how weirdly stalkerish I seem.
Anyway, I watched some of the guys of My Hotel Year play pool. Then, Ben and Travis played a game. Ben is quite the pool player. He made two shots from behind his back. (Note to Ben: I saw what happened on that second behind the back shot, but I won’t tell. ) I bought 2 shirts and also got a button and a sticker. Josh was sitting in for the merch guy when I walked up. I lost my power to speak so I just stood there staring at the stuff like a dumb ass. He asked me if I saw anything I liked and commented on how mesmerizing their merch was. And it was. The other guy came back and that’s when I could speak again to buy my stuff. I sat at an empty spot at the bar. When I looked up, I saw Atom laying his head on a table. I wanted to give him my jacket as a pillow but I wussed out. I watched as a friend of theirs gave them some really sweet looking hoodies.
Now to the point of all this -- The Show. It was Full Blown Rock! Atom’s hair was amazing! And that was the show! The End! ;D
Seriously, It was a Killer show. Totally worth the drive and mental anguish. I took a few pictures even though I wasn’t supposed to. I wore my Member’s Only jacket as a sign of support. Ben pointed at it. That was cool. They didn’t play my fave song but that’s okay. It wouldn’t have worked in the set. The hair was amazing! Atom commented on Jeff’s new 4 day old hair do and Jeff’s case of butt-itis. Josh told Ben his hair sucked and that it needed to be straightened. Fun stuff. Oh, my evening’s highlight was SHREDFEST! Amazing! When Atom came into the crowd to rock out, he crushed my foot when he slammed down onto his knees. He looked like he was having a Spinal Tap moment. Maybe. Maybe not. Kinda like he was having problems getting back up. He pulled it off though. The crowd was great. The banter between FW and MHY was cool. During the last song, I thought the stage was going to give out. All the jumping and stuff. The stage didn’t look very secure. Atom can jump really high. The man seems to be able to defy gravity. Anyhoo, the show was great. MHY rocked out next. It was the first time I every heard them. Very cool band. Definitely worth seeing.
At the end of the night, everyone left and I stayed like an idiot. I just wanted to say hi or something. I was so scared I could have died of a heart attack. The venue taped the show and was playing it on the TV screens and everyone was watching. Finally, I mustered up the courage to walk up to them. I asked Ben to sign my Member’s Only jacket. He looked surprised. He asked if I noticed when he pointed at it. Of course, I did. He got Atom to sign it too. He showed me his jacket. Matching Love Twinkies. Whatever that means. Atom got Jeff to sign the jacket and then he hunted around for Josh so he could get a picture of it. Josh signed it too. I got my picture with them. I was happy. To think I almost left in silence. I’m glad I didn’t because they are the hottest, nicest, hottest, sweetest, hottest, friendliest, hottest, most totally non-bogus, hottest dudes I have ever met. Before I left, I gave Atom my little gift pack for the band. It was embarrassing and I want to leave immediately before he opened it, but I ended up staying to see him open it. I felt stupid. Really Stupid. Someone came up and gave Atom a CD and they had a conversation. Again, I stood there like a dumb ass. Atom opened up the bag and seemed to like it. He invited me to the van to show the other guys what I gave them. We took a picture with the gifts. He said they’d put it in the tour diary. So if you want to know what it was, here’s a hint: Feable Weiner need not have Feeble Wieners. We talked for a bit. Atom gave me the first pin he ever made on his button machine. (I’m sure he gives out the first pin he ever made on his button machine all the time. ) I left that night a very, very, very happy person.
Stretch your legs. Get something to eat. Pee. Whatever. There’s more!!
Monday, Feb 9 -- Lincoln Theatre (Raleigh):
I wasn’t even supposed to go to this show. I decided to at the last minute. It was 3 and a half hours plus another 45 minutes or so of lost time. I was going to admit defeat again. Then I realized I was driving past it over and over again. I parked and just sat there for 2 hours. I wasn’t going anywhere. The only time I got out was to see if it was sold out. I’d never been there before so I didn’t know. The guy was like “This show is NOT gonna sell out. There’s no way it’s gonna sell out.” How’s that for heartbreaking? Anyhoo, I went back to the car and sat there sick and freezing. I saw the guys pull in and park. I went in at about 8pm. The guys were opening the show. What’s the deal with “toast”? I should have asked. Should I bring bread next time I see them? Whatever. So I planted my wallflower self in a corner. I didn’t want to bother them. They were talking to their friends and all. I just waited for the show to start. Josh came up to me and said hi. He said this show was going to be like the greatest show ever. He left to get set up. I was shocked when Atom remembered my name. I was actually expecting a “Hey, you. What’s your name again?” kinda thing but he remembered. That was cool. We talked a bit. Jeff and Ben came up to say hi. Did I mention that they are the hottest, nicest, hottest, sweetest, hottest, friendliest, hottest, most totally non-bogus, hottest dudes I have ever met? I asked Ben if the Wilmington show was still on. (The night before when they asked where I was from, I told them I was like 2 hours from Wilmington. They said they were playing there. I told them that the Soapbox place didn’t have the show listed. It was a jazz ensemble thing listed. They said they’d look into it.) Ben said he didn’t know anything about it. That no one tells him anything. I know that pain all too well.
And now, Feable Weiner takes the stage! Again, Full Blown Rock!! Atom was working a Marshall MS-2 Mini Amp that Travis had bought. (I only know that because my brother has one.) It was the first time it was being used. That little thing was b-itchin' ass cool! I didn’t think that thing could hold up on a real stage. I was wrong. Atom switched to his normal set up but technical difficulties occurred so he switched back to the mini and changed guitars. During this time, Atom told Josh to prove he was a Christian. Josh and Ben went into a little Christian song. I don’t know the name of it. That was funny. They tried to get a Feable Weiner chant going, but that didn’t go too well. Another (a)rousing edition of SHREDFEST! It was priceless! Josh and Atom were bringing back playing guitar with teeth and tongues! Ben worked the David Lee Roth kicks. Atom rockin’ with the guitar behind his head all Hendrix style and doing the Angus Young kicking. An all out rock n roll assault! They didn’t play my fave song again. That’s okay. MHY went on and rocked the fuk out! Lots of good stuff. If you haven’t seen them, go. Now.
I hung out with them for a bit. I told Atom they were the only people I knew there so if they were leaving I was too. He asked if it was worth staying because it was all downhill from there. Yes, it was. I followed him around like an orphaned puppy. He left me by the merch booth and I got to talk to James the MHY merch guy. We talked about tour mishaps, careers, monetary set ups. He gave me some free stuff. He’s awesome. I also got to talk to Jeff. He showed me his pins of Ben and George Lucas. Very Cool! He gave me stickers. The guys talked about their show and all that. Then it was time to go. I got a 3-way sandwich from Atom, Ben and Jeff. Did I mention that they are the hottest, nicest, hottest, sweetest, hottest, friendliest, hottest, most totally non-bogus, hottest dudes I have ever met? Really, they are. Super sweet, spicy, saucy, smokin’ hot stud muffins! These guys are hotter than the sun! (Jeff, are you listening?)
So anyway, that was my excellent adventure! There was also a bogus journey but that’s another story. I also really wish I asked what kind of camera Atom had. It’s so small and cute. So anyway, that’s the end. Long and drawn out, I know but I had to get it out. Oh, and to the band if you are reading this, I apologize if I annoy you or anything like that. You don’t have to talk to me if you don’t want to.
