I know there are probably some Weezer fans on this board so I thought I'd mention that they have a new record out in May. Personally, I think their output since Pinkerton (a great record) has been shit (excepting "Photograph"), and Blue in my opinion wasn't anything too special either. But for some reason, I'm always really interested in them. Perhaps because Rivers is such a weird, bipolar goon, that you just can't help but be intrigued. Maybe because of the seemingly obvious fact that Matt Sharp's falsetto backup was what once made their songs good (imagine "Say It Ain't So" without him, and you have a far lesser song on your hands). Maybe because they write entire records - usually better than their real releases - and never do anything with them. I don't know. It's just an interesting band to me. Well, a little clip from their latest record just surfaced on the Internet. You can find it here: Beverley Hills - Weezer (10 second clip)I think their next record will finally determine what I really think of them, and this single sounds like it could be cool. The female backup is just obnoxious enough to really work, and the guitar "bends" that bookend the chorus sound pretty rockin'. More adept Weezer fans have also pointed out the main riff's uncanny resemblance to "Blast Off!," a song from far better Weezer-times. Okay, hope my little stream of conscience didn't scare anyone off. So, what do you think of Weezer? Of the new clip? The prospect of the new record (and it's title, Make Believe)? Anyone?

thats the same theory I had towards going to see 'Queen' (no point without Freddie) and Alice Cooper/Twisted Sister. (We just ignore the fact I tend to not pay for gigs at all anymore)

Well, as a rather seasoned Weezer fan, I'm really looking forward to the new album. I've been following its progress all along, well, all that Karl would divulge on their website at least. You really can't be 100% sure of any other weezer news source these days... But that clip was the first I've heard of that song... and it sounds promising. I agree Green and Maladroit were pretty much crap, save for one or two songs on either. But Blue is still my fav.... I think Pinkerton is just as good, but in a different way than Blue. Blue was one of the most influential albums of the 90's... and of course some say that Pinkerton was the beginning of emo... but I tend to disagree. Honestly, I don't know a lot about emo because I'm not a big fan, but I can't see how Pinkerton could have single-handedly started the emo movement, however I can see how it may have been a part of it. I think, from reading Rivers' blog on myspace, that "Make Believe" will indeed be a big improvement from the last two weezer albums. But going back to what Jakob said about Matt Sharp, I must agree that he was a big part of what made Blue and Pinkerton so good. Honestly I don't think weezer will ever reach that level of greatness again, but I do think that "Make Believe" is a promising endeavor for them, and I will go to all extremes to catch the next US tour, no matter what!

Hahahah, nice. I wonder if Rivers is over his "Pinkerton Denial" stage yet.
Speaking of which, anyone have any interviews onhand in which he directly disses the album? I really wanna know what he said, exactly.

I saw Weezer live my sophomore year of high school (with fucking Jimmy Eat World and Tenacious D no less) and damn....greatness. I'd loved them forever because, having a brother 5 years older than me, I'd always listened to alternative radio. I agree that Green was basically crap, and because of my huge disappointment, I didnt even buy Maladroit. I hope this new disc is good.
